Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and the choices you have, in plain English.

Last updated: 23 October 2026

The short version

  • We store what you put in the app, to run the app, plus daily counts of how often you use its AI features (never your words), kept for 7 days. No ads, no tracking, no selling data.
  • Only the contacts you pick are added. Your voice recordings never reach us; only the text does.
  • Notes are sent to Anthropic’s Claude to be tidied and filed only if you allow it, and Anthropic doesn’t train on them. You can turn this off in the app under You › “Tidy and file my notes”. (Versions before 2.0 tidy notes unless you switch it off in Settings.)
  • You can export everything, or delete your account and all of your data, from the app at any time.

1. Introduction

Blonde Dolphin (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a personal notes app for the people, pets, places and things in your life. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over it.

By using Blonde Dolphin, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to provide the Blonde Dolphin service:

  • Account information: your name, email address, and authentication credentials (including Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In tokens where applicable).
  • Contact data: names, phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays and photos of the people you choose to add or import, and the family links (such as spouse, parent or child) and dates (such as an anniversary) on their cards. We only access the contacts you explicitly select, and never read your address book in the background.
  • Pages: as well as people, the pets, places, items and topics you keep notes about, with their names, nicknames, icon or photo, and your settings for each page (such as “Keep out of A year ago”).
  • Notes: text notes, dictated notes (as text), the page each note is filed under, any other pages it’s also about, and the date it happened. A note that isn’t filed yet can also carry a suggested page.
  • Details you keep: things to remember, yearly dates (such as a child’s birthday, an anniversary or a car’s registration), and the family and friend links you add between people.
  • Photos: images you add to pages or attach to notes.
  • Reminders: reminder details and schedules you create.
  • Usage counts: for each account, how many times note tidying, Ask and Recap were used each day, how much text was processed (as token counts) and which Claude model was used. They are counts only and never include your notes, questions, answers or any other text. We use them only to run the service, apply daily limits and keep it affordable. Each account’s counts are deleted after 7 days; after that we keep only daily totals for the whole service, which aren’t linked to any account.
  • Device information: we do not collect device identifiers, advertising identifiers or location data, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

Voice notes are transcribed by Apple’s speech recognition, on your device or on Apple’s servers. Only the resulting text is stored on your account; the audio is never sent to us or kept.

Notes can hold sensitive things you choose to write down, such as health details. They are stored and protected like the rest of your notes, and you can delete them at any time. Tidying is told never to suggest passwords, PINs, card or bank numbers, or ID numbers as things to remember, but it’s best not to keep those in notes at all.

3. How we use your information

Your data is used only to:

  • Provide the core Blonde Dolphin service: storing your pages, notes, reminders, dates and photos, and letting you search them.
  • Tidy and file your notes, write recaps and answer your questions using AI, if you allow it (see Section 5).
  • Count how often those AI features are used, so each account has a daily limit and the service stays affordable.
  • Authenticate you and keep you signed in.
  • Schedule notifications on your device for reminders, birthdays and dates you have set.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored with Supabase, a cloud database platform hosted on Amazon Web Services. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Row-level security ensures that only you can access your own data.

So that search and Ask can find things quickly, a search index of your notes, the things you remember, and your pages’ names, nicknames and tags is kept in the same database, with the same protections. It is updated when you make changes, and each entry is deleted along with the note, fact or page it came from.

Photos and avatars are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls tied to your account.

Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth, supporting email and password, Sign in with Apple, and Google Sign-In. Your session is kept in the iOS Keychain on your device.

On your iPhone: to make the app work offline and power iOS features, some data is also kept on your device. This includes a cache of your recent data, your recent searches, notes waiting to upload, unsaved drafts, the Up next widget, and Spotlight entries for your people. If you turn on the optional Face ID lock, authentication is handled entirely by iOS; we never receive biometric data.

5. Third-party services

Blonde Dolphin uses the following services to run:

  • Supabase: database hosting, authentication, file storage, and server functions. Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Anthropic (Claude): if you allow it, Claude tidies and files your notes, writes Recaps and answers Ask questions. Anthropic doesn’t use this content to train its models. What’s sent to Anthropic is set out below. Anthropic Privacy Policy.
  • Apple: if you choose Sign in with Apple, authentication tokens are exchanged with Apple. If you dictate a note, Apple’s speech recognition turns your voice into text, on your device or on Apple’s servers. Notifications are scheduled on your device. Apple Privacy Policy.
  • Google Sign-In: if you choose it, authentication tokens are exchanged with Google. Google Privacy Policy.

What’s sent to Anthropic

The app asks before anything is sent to Anthropic. If you choose “Not now”, nothing is sent and your notes are saved exactly as you write them. If you later use Ask or Recap, the app asks again, and saying yes there covers only Ask and Recap. You can change your mind at any time under You › “Tidy and file my notes”.

Once you’ve said yes, this is what’s sent, and when:

  • When you save a note, or as soon as a long recording ends (only if you’ve allowed tidying): the note’s text, your time zone, and the things to remember and dates you already keep for that page. A recording of about 40 words or more is sent when the mic stops, before you tap Save, so its notes are ready sooner; if you then discard it, the text was still sent once. Names and details you mention are part of the note’s text. Claude uses this to tidy the note, work out who or what it’s about, split a long recording into a note for each thing it covers, and suggest reminders, dates and things to remember that you don’t already have. Your list of pages isn’t sent; your phone matches Claude’s suggestions to your pages.
  • When you tap Recap on a person (“Briefing” in earlier versions): their name and birthday, recent notes, the things you remember about them, their open reminders, their family and friend links, and important dates. Claude uses this to write a short catch-up.
  • When you use Ask: your question and today’s date may be sent first, so Claude can pick the words to search for. Then your question is sent again with the notes, facts and dates that best match it, your most recent notes, and the names of the pages they belong to or mention. If you ask from a page, that page’s name is sent too. Claude uses this to answer.

Your contact list is never sent. A note you save while you’re offline waits on your phone and is uploaded to your account, as written, when you’re back online; it isn’t sent to Anthropic.

Versions of the app before 2.0 don’t ask first: they tidy notes when you save unless you switch off “Tidy notes with AI” in Settings.

6. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can edit or delete individual pages, notes, reminders, dates and photos at any time in the app. Deleting a note also deletes its photos.

Usage counts linked to your account are deleted after 7 days. The search index and any remaining usage counts are deleted with your account.

7. Exporting and deleting your data

You can download a readable copy of your pages, notes, dates, reminders and links at any time from You › “Export your data” (tap your avatar at the top of Home to open You). In versions before 2.0 it’s under Settings › “Export your data”.

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from You › “Delete account” (Settings › “Delete Account” before 2.0). When you delete your account:

  • All pages, notes, reminders, dates, links, groups, and photos are permanently removed.
  • The search index of your notes and your usage counts are deleted too.
  • Your authentication record is deleted.
  • This cannot be undone.

8. Children’s privacy

Blonde Dolphin is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have, we will delete it promptly.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data (available in the app through account deletion).
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
  • Receive a portable copy of your data (available in the app through “Export your data”).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@blondedolphin.com.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the revised policy.
